Buyers Guide
The number one advantage of using an Exergen temporal thermometer as opposed to a typical oral or other type of thermometer is that the temporal is non invasive. It simply is touched to the surface of the babies head at the temple to measure the temperature of the temporal artery, which is fact more accurate than oral thermometers. Wasn’t it horrible when you were a kid and it was bad enough that you were sick but then your mother had to grab that annoying uncomfortable thermometer and stick it under your tongue while you sat there waiting for it to read. And if you were especially unlucky, your mother might have had a rectal thermometer, but we wont go into detail with that.
The temporal thermometers take temperatures almost instantly, with just a simple swipe across the side of the head. They can used to take the temperature of a sleeping child as well so neither the parent or the child will have to deal with the discomfort of sticking a temperature rod somewhere you don’t want it to be.
The very best, most accurate, spot on measurement to take any temperature is at the center of the heart but for any convenient purposes no one is going to do this as it requires a doctor. But we can take a piece of information from doctors, as they know the best measurement for blood temperature is in a major artery. This reflects the real body temperature as accurate as possible without a major incision. The temporal scanner is made to measure the temperature of the temporal artery which is just below the skin and it is the major artery of the head.
This artery has an almost direct connection to the heart. It is connected to the carotid artery which stems directly out of the aorta, the largest artery in the heart, providing the closest match to the temperature of the center of the heart possible. Luckily enough the temporal artery is also close enough to the surface of the skin to be measured.
So now that we know how this device works and why it is the most non irritating and non invasive type of thermometer, what factors will work for you the best? There are many different kinds of thermometers at very different prices. Cheap products are out there and with these kind of devices you get what you pay for. If you want a device that will give you a good ballpark range you can choose one of the lower end devices. On the other end of the spectrum are the professional grade devices and these have a large price range of their own. The lower end spectrum of the professional series would be a great choice because you aren’t getting the doctor grade, surgical precision accuracy needed in a doctors office but you are getting a high quality and highly accurate device that for home purposes will be perfect for you and your children. Whatever choice you make the temporal thermometer is slowly becoming the new standard.
